COLORADO FIRE & TRIP UPDATE

TRIP UPDATE 6/29 AM

As of last night (6/28), all current destinations on our upcoming trip are open!

AEWE leaders continue to work and plan for an alternate destination should current conditions change or deteriorate. We are also regularly communicating with RMNP park officials to insure safe conditions for all hikes.

Please check the AEWE blog often for any notices in this regard as we will be updating with current information regularly. Avoid contacting destinations directly, especially via phone as those folks have their hands full monitoring their own situation. Instead, please use websites and legitimate news sources to monitor the fire/weather conditions.

AEWE Up!

On the longest (and hottest) last day of spring 2012 AEWE hikers got serious and felt what a loaded back feels like in 90+ degree heat.

Hikers soak up the AC in preparation for a brief hike with packs full in altitude 1/10th of RMNP!

AEWE leaders review first aid kid components while 2nd year leader Clint Cook verifies details

oh yes the beloved bear canister goes in your pack too :(

With only 14 days left in the countdown things got serious last night on the final AEWE meeting before showtime. The heat caused an abbreviated hike on much more tolerable terrain but the mood was more serious this time as many trip specifics were discussed and reviewed.

The next meeting is it. 7/5 8:00 AM BACC packs loaded, cameras charged......EYES WIDE OPEN!

**Parent's.....................ALL Aboard will be approximately 9-9:15 AM on 7/5 after a pack check and group gear distribution.
